Knight Looks Forward To House Vote After Senate Moves To Save Net Neutrality

Steve Knight Congressman Steve Knight, In the News

A confrontation over net neutrality – the rules governing whether internet service providers can throttle or charge more for access to certain websites – is looming in the House of Representatives, and Congressman Steve Knight, R-Santa Clarita, will likely be one of the most closely watched votes because of “concerns” he raised with the FCC over the issue. The U.S. Senate voted to save net neutrality in a narrow vote last week, just under a month ahead of the “death of net neutrality” on June 11, when the FCC, under Chairman Ajit Pai, plans to roll back regulations meant to keep ISPs from enacting paid prioritization. After the bipartisan vote, in which a handful of Republican Senators joined Democrats in restoring 2015 rules, analysts said …

Congressman Steve Knight Introduces Bill To Combat Drug Trafficking

Steve Knight Congressman Steve Knight, In the News

Congressman Steve Knight, R-Santa Clarita, introduced H.R. 5546 on Wednesday in an effort to authorize the use of specified Department of Defense funds for combating drug trafficking and abuse. Knight’s bill would authorize $20 million of the National Guard’s counterdrug program funding to support interagency efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse. “The opioid crisis is growing and we need all hands on deck in order to tackle this problem,” said Knight. “This bill directs funding to ensure the DOD, Homeland Security, and other government agencies work in conjunction with one another to share information and resources to stop the illegal drug trade.” Over 42,000 deaths in the United States in 2016 were linked to the use of drugs, according to the Office of National …

Bill to fight online sex trafficking cosponsored by Knight signed into law

Steve Knight Congressman Steve Knight, In the News

President Donald Trump signed a measure Wednesday aimed at curbing online sex trafficking. The bipartisan House Resolution 1865, also known as the Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act of 2017, allows victims of sex trafficking to hold websites accountable for knowingly facilitating sex trafficking. Congressman Steve Knight, R-Palmdale, co-sponsored the legislation and expressed support for its signing. “I’m very pleased this bipartisan bill was signed into law,” he said. “Sex and human trafficking are some of the most heinous crimes committed against victims, which are disproportionately children or women. This new law targets online services and other technology used by these criminals to exploit and abuse their victims. Additionally, it increases penalties for individuals who intentionally participate in this trade. As …

EDITORIAL: Cemex Controversy Nearing An End

Steve Knight Congressman Steve Knight, In the News

It’s taken twenty-eight years, but thanks to the persistent efforts of Congressman Steve Knight and US Senator Dianne Feinstein, Federal Legislation to put a stop to the potential Cemex mega-mine in Santa Clarita has finally been signed by President Trump. The Cemex Mine would have been a disaster to the east side of our Valley, creating poor air quality, severe added traffic congestion with hundreds of cement trucks crawling up and down the 14 freeway every day. The environmental impact, devaluation of our homes and the future ramifications for our children have made the fight against the Soledad Mining Project more than worth the effort. Congressman Knight has been working diligently since he was elected into office to navigate solutions to the costly stalemate. The …

Congressman Steve Knight: In support of net neutrality

Steve Knight Congressman Steve Knight, In the News, Op-Ed

The Signal | January 09, 2018 –  I support Net Neutrality. As a representative of a district with thousands of small businesses and bold entrepreneurs, I understand the need to establish a light-touch regulatory environment that supports innovation and competition. However, I believe the recent vote by the Federal Communications Commission to reverse the 2015 classification of broadband internet as a Title II Common Carrier communications service may unintentionally compromise this goal. This is why, prior to the FCC vote, I personally called Chairman Ajit Pai to express my concerns with the Commission’s plan and request that he work with Congress to seek a legislative solution to protect consumers and allow internet companies to innovate and thrive. While I was disappointed in the FCC’s vote …

Knight: Cemex mine, infrastructure, among 2018 priorities

Steve Knight Congressman Steve Knight, In the News

The Signal | January 2, 2018 –  Representative Steve Knight, R-Palmdale, said last week he’s had a positive year for legislation, but has already outlined several top priorities for the new year. The two-term congressman said he helped restore then add government funding that has been used by Santa Clarita city officials for a variety of programs, including affordable and rehabilitative housing, domestic violence victim support facilities, summer youth programs and mental health counseling. “We added $100 million to community development block grant funds,” he said. Knight’s office said President Donald Trump’s initial budget stripped all community development block grant funds, but Knight’s amendment helped restore funding levels on par with last year’s $3 billion. Rep. Knight worked with the House Appropriations Committee to ensure …

Wilk statement on newly released majority party transportation package

Scott Wilk Assemblyman Scott Wilk

Twitter Facebook Google+ Reddit PrintFriendly Wednesday, March 29, 2017 Sacramento – Senator Scott Wilk, R – Antelope Valley, issued the following statement on the majority party transportation package: “More taxes are not the answer to our transportation problems. In fact, Republican legislators have a plan to repurpose $6 billion to road maintenance and construction to fix our roads without raising taxes a single cent. Californians already pay the highest taxes in the nation taxes toward our roads, but Democrats in the Legislature have redirected, repurposed and redistributed our money to pork-barrel projects and gubernatorial pipe-dreams like high speed rail, rather than taking action on our failing roads. The 21st Senate District, with its nearly 200,000 daily commuters, is impacted the most by our dilapidated highways …
