Knight Legislation Signed Into Law

Steve Knight Congressman Steve Knight, In the News

In the past several weeks, Congressman Steve Knight has seen three of his bills signed into law. The Better Energy Storage Technology (BEST) Act, Flight R&D Act, and Friendly Airports for Mothers Act have been signed into law since late October, marking a string of legislative accomplishments for Knight. The first of these bills to pass through Congress and get signed by the President was the BEST Act. The bill invests in programs to develop and implement large-scale renewable energy storage technologies, which would enable energy companies and consumers to use more of the energy produced by solar panels and wind turbines. Moreover, the BEST Act is particularly important for the residents in Knight’s district. The Antelope Valley has taken long strides to develop …

Re-elect Steve Knight for Congress

Steve Knight Congressman Steve Knight, In the News

By THE EDITORIAL BOARD | [email protected] | In one of the most closely watched House races in the nation, voters are faced with distinctive candidates offering competing visions for America.  While we admire Katie Hill’s convictions, Steve Knight is the right choice for the district. First elected to the House of Representatives in 2014 after serving in the state Legislature and on the Palmdale City Council, Knight has been comfortably elected and re-elected in the district. That’s no small feat considering the growing shifts in the district, which went for Mitt Romney in 2012, but went for Hillary Clinton by an even larger margin in 2016. To his credit, Knight has been a fairly consistent member of Congress. While on the one hand he has stood with his party …

Knight Protects Coverage of Pre-Existing Conditions

Steve Knight Congressman Steve Knight, Op-Ed

Last week, Congressman Steve Knight introduced legislation to protect healthcare coverage for individuals with pre-existing conditions. H.R. 6898, the Maintaining Protections for Patients with Pre-Existing Conditions Act of 2018, is a response to cases in federal courts that threaten to repeal the entire Affordable Care Act — including its coverage of pre-existing conditions. More specifically, the legislation amends the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act by adding provisions from the ACA in order that they remain law even if the ACA is struck down. The law will ensure nobody receives limited coverage or is denied outright because of their medical history. The bill also stops risk-rating — whereby healthcare providers assess a patient’s medical history and inflate their costs if a patient is more likely …

NDAA Signed Into Law

Steve Knight Congressman Steve Knight, Op-Ed

On Monday, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019 was signed into law, giving American troops their biggest raise in nearly a decade. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Steve Knight helped craft the legislation and secure funds for local aerospace projects. The bill works to rebuild the United States armed forces — including appropriations for thirteen new ships, seventy-seven F-35 jets, and several other improvements to military technology and preparedness. More importantly, it gives the men and women who serve in the military a 2.9% raise, the largest in nine years. Steve Knight has long been an advocate for a strong military, and serving on the Armed Services Committee has given him the chance to work on issues related …

July Jobs Report

Steve Knight Congressman Steve Knight, Uncategorized

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released data last Friday which shows the United States economy is continuing to outperform expectations. One-hundred fifty-seven thousand jobs were added and the unemployment rate fell to 3.9% after a small spike in June. Importantly, many of the jobs added have been in the manufacturing sector. Over the past twelve months, manufacturing has added three-hundred twenty-seven thousand new jobs, a sign that the sector is recovering from the massive losses incurred during the Great Recession. The 3.9% unemployment rate is slightly higher than it was in May (3.8%), but in both May and July it was lower than it had been at any point since before the tech bubble burst in 2000. Even the most poorly educated have seen positive …

Knight Hosts Local Roundtables

Steve Knight Congressman Steve Knight, In the News

This Monday, Reps. Steve Knight and Michael McCaul (TX-10), Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, met with law enforcement and community leaders in Santa Clarita and Simi Valley to discuss how Congress can continue to address issues like the opioid epidemic and human trafficking. Two months ago, Knight helped pass the most sweeping package of legislation the House has considered to stop this country’s opioid crisis. As a member of the Bipartisan Heroin Task Force and the representative of a district deeply affected by the opioid epidemic, Knight has worked hard to give law enforcement and medical professions the tools to solve this problem. “We have to keep working to stop the opioid crisis ‒ whether by stopping overprescription or giving law enforcement …

No NATO Withdrawal Act

Steve Knight Congressman Steve Knight, Uncategorized

On Wednesday, July 27, 2018, Congressman Steve Knight, along with Rep. Jimmy Panetta (CA-20), co-introduced H.R. 6530. This bill, the No NATO Withdrawal Act, reaffirms Congressional support for the North American Treaty Organization, and works toward strengthening the alliance. The bill stops any federal funds from being used to withdraw from NATO, and commits the United States as a member in good standing with its allies. Furthermore, the bill directs NATO to work toward the 2014 goal of securing two percent of each member nation’s gross domestic product for mutual defense. “I am proud to defend NATO and the shared values of its members,” Knight said. “Russia has undermined sovereignty and threatened our democratic allies in Western Europe. I support our NATO partners as they …

Rep. Steve Knight | Don’t Stop Talking About School Safety

Steve Knight Congressman Steve Knight, In the News

When my children were very young, I chose to spend my days off volunteering in their classrooms. I did this to spend time with my children and be an active participant in their education, but the experience left me changed for other reasons. I began volunteering in their elementary school shortly after the tragedy at Columbine, and as a young Los Angeles Police Department officer I received training to combat active shooter threats. The experience shook me to my core. I had always known that danger existed on our city streets, but I hoped that our children were safe in their schools. Unfortunately, the 19 years since Columbine have done little to ease my fears. According to FBI statistics, at least 41 school shootings have …
